Newsletter – April 2016

The season 2015/2016 is nearly at end, with finals week between the 18th and 22nd April. The Indoor committee and the Management Committee hope you all summer well; that the weather is kind and that if you are playing bowls you have much success.

National Competitions

Congratulations to Eileen Devonald – Batt and Mary Price who won the National Over 60 pairs Trophy and also to Clive Behmber, Brett Long, Gordon Knapper and Dave Simpson who reached the semi-finals of the National Over 60 fours Competition and were narrowly defeated on an extra end.

Club Finals

An interesting programme with 5 games on most nights has been arranged. Competitions commence at 6.30pm every night.

There promises to be some good bowling and it would be nice to have the club full of spectators. The singles finals are scheduled for Friday 22nd April, and as usual the kitchen will be open for food.

Women’s singles:

Eileen Devonald – Batt v Lorraine Woodley

Men’s singles:

Len Essex v Kyle Mallandain

Kyle, only a few years ago, played in some outstanding under 25 singles when the club were able to stage this competition.

Please come along and support the members/teams playing in the finals.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held on the 11th April and approximately 80 people attended.

An overwhelming vote in favour decided that from the start of next season, the jack will be rolled in all leagues.

The proposition to merge both Women’s leagues into one resulted in a dead heat vote, so the status quo remains. However the future of the Women’s leagues, including perhaps using a handicap system will be high on the Agenda on the Indoor committee and will include consultation with members.

Next season Desborough will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Indoor facilities. Several special events are being organised. There will be much to look forward to, including looking at the possible reorganisation of all leagues as we move to relocation.

Relocation Update

Following the unanimous decision by the RBWM Development Panel at their planning meeting on the 16th March to approve our application to move to a new site in Green Lane, we are now working to agree the details required to satisfy the conditions outlined in the approval document.

It is considered that we shall be able to comply with all their requirements satisfactorily and are looking forward to this stage of the development being completed in the near future.
