Barry Gill played England international Andy Knapper in the final of the County Two Wood Champion of Champions and emerged victorious 16-9. Although Barry went into the game as underdog he produced a champions performance as he continually put his opponent under pressure and fully deserved his victory which gained him a County badge.
Desborough’s Senior Fours of John Stenson, Bruce Adams, Peter Braddock and John Young went to Leamington to represent Berkshire in the National Finals but after a tense game they went down 24-18 to a four from Lincolnshire.
With the men’s leagues finished, the ladies took centre stage but unfortunate the Bluebells missed their cue as they went down 10-0 to Three Mile Cross. The Buttercups won 6-4 against Trentham in a rearranged game but despite a winning performance from Kath Spracklen, Val Wyatt and Mary Martin they went down 8-2 to Wokingham Oakapples.
The only friendly of the week was a trip to Marlow and after coping with their challenging green, Desborough was triumphant 113-74, winning on 5 rinks and drawing one. Although the rinks skipped by Dave Wagner, Brian Jones and Bruce Adams were evenly matched, they had nothing on Val Wyatt, Jim Roll and Paul Winstanley who won by 18 shots, 25-7.
