PRESS REPORT w/e 29.7.18
Nicola Jones played in the Two Wood Singles at the County Finals held at Suttons but came up short as she fell to a 15-5 defeat by Sylvia Pearce from Wokingham. She has the consolation of going to Leamington on August 14 to represent Berkshire against an opponent from Devon.
In the Kennet League, Desborough A entertained Maidenhead Thicket and eked out a 10-4 victory thanks to 2 winning rinks skipped by the Devonald-Batts, Tony and Derek. The B team travelled to Caversham but went down 12-2 with the only crumb of comfort coming from the winning rink of Paul Patel, Dave Wagner, Barry Gill and Derry Locke. With one game remaining it doesn’t matter anymore as both teams are relegated from their respective divisions.

Games against touring teams are usually tremendous occasions and the visit from the men of Plymouth & District was no exception. Both teams won on 3 rinks and the other rink was drawn but the visitors managed to score 7 more shots to claim victory. However the real winner was the game of bowls. The rinks skipped by John Young and Brian Jones thought they were fighting it out for top rink but they failed to notice Clive Dawson, Roger Wyatt, John Brampton and Tony Devonald-Batt sneaking up on the rails to pip them to that honour.
