PRESS REPORT w/e 2.9.18
Four members of Desborough Bowling Club’s School Academy, Simran Thaman, Katie Coles, Kira Smith and Sadia Siddiqi went to Leamington as part of the Berkshire squad to play in the Amy Rose Bowl and although the girls played well they succumbed to more experienced opposition from Worcestershire. Thanks goes to Gina Braddock for nurturing the girl’s bowling careers which will hopefully last many years.
Desborough welcomed local rivals Maidenhead Thicket to York Road with a positive outcome as they edged it 108-100. However as both sides shared the 6 rinks, the captains agreed on a honourable draw as being a fairer result. The rinks skipped by Bruce Adams and Tony Buckley had winning scorecards but they didn’t come close to Pat Arnott, Rose Turner and the Welsh Wizard, Brian Jones, who claimed top rink honours by winning 27-13.
E Cox, E Devonald-Batt, P Winstanley 15-17
C Buckley, M Pelling, R Weaver. 13-26
P Harrison-Smith, N Jones, T Buckley. 23-16
P Arnott, R Turner, B Jones. 27-13
P Patel, J Bosley, B Adams. 16-10
R Earl, P Hatch, B Wright 14-18
In the final Royal Shield match of the 2018 outdoor season, Desborough traveled to Windsor Great Park but unfortunately fell to an 8-2 defeat with the only joy coming from the winning rink of Pam Harrison-Smith, Rose Turner and Gill O’Neill.
In a two rink friendly against Twyford, Desborough triumphed 42-29 with a winning performance from Katie Coles, Carole Tupling and Rose Turner.
S Thaman, S Newnham, J Bosley. 16-22
K Coles, C Tupling, R Turner. 26-7
Desborough’s men finished with a flourish in the Floodlight League as they won both games in the double header against Suttons. The A squad played away and won 10-4 which included a scintillating performance from Michael White and Tony Buckley in the pairs as they won 30-9. The B squad won 12-2 at home with only the pairs going down against tough opposition.
